Super Bugs

Explore your school's hidden ecosystems.

About this excursion

Super Bugs is an incursion where the students engage with the environment under their toes.

Excursion activities

Using the schools/communities available facilities, we either go dip netting in a creek/dam or bug sifting in the gardens.

When dip netting, we investigate the macroinvertebrates that live in the water and use the bugs we find as an indicator of water quality.

When bug sifting, students look ecosystems ( food, home and predators) and attempt to identify insects on a chart.

An additional activity attached to this incursion is Clay Bugs. Students create their very own bugs out of clay and collected flora.
